Museum Song Terus

The Museum Song Terus was launched on Wednesday (12/10/2022) is the Song Terus Museum which is in Weru Hamlet, Wareng Village, Punung District, Pacitan Regency. It is located only about 100 meters from Tabuhan Cave.

Standing on an area of ​​2.5 hectares, the Song Terus museum consists of 3 floors with a beautiful and futuristic architectural design.

Museum Song Terus has 6 galleries in its exhibition space. Each gallery displays a special theme and sequence so that visitors can better understand the history of the Gunung Sewu Geopark. Both the environmental and civilizational landscapes from the past to the present.

It is hoped that the presence of the Song Terus Museum, which is adjacent to the Song Terus site, will inspire visitors to understand, appreciate and preserve evidence of past history for present and future life.

This museum was established from 2016 until the end of 2019. And the importance of prehistoric wealth on Mount Sewu was the background for the establishment of this museum. Includes rocks, prehistoric tools and prehistoric fossils.

In this museum, presenting prehistoric findings, especially Pacitanian with a modern minimalist concept.
The Song Museum building consists of three floors. The underground floor contains research rooms, collection management rooms, meeting rooms and offices. While on the ground floor includes a VIP room, cafeteria and temporary exhibition space.

Meanwhile, the upper floor consists of an audio-visual room, auditorium and warehouse. The museum is also equipped with a library containing historical books.

Pacitan has a long history, especially in the field of pre-history. Pacitan is very famous for its Pacitanian stone tools found among foreign researchers.

In the collection of the Song Museum is also a human skeleton named Mbah Sayem.

Mbah Sayem is a prehistoric human skeleton estimated to be 40-50 years old. He’s a man who is thought to have been buried in the Song Terus for approximately 10,000 years.

Mbah Sayem was found lying down, his hands clutching stone and bone tools. In addition, there is a long-tailed monkey skull skeleton. Mbah Sayem’s grave is covered with fern leaves and on top of it is a large ox skeleton.

In addition to a collection of ancient human skeletons, the Song Teurs Museum also contains a number of cultures from the Gunung Sewu region to various other collections. Of course, this collection is suitable for educational tours for students, related to history and also culture lessons in the Gunung Sewu area.
